Dear APNIC members and friends,
On behalf of APNIC, I would like to take this opportunity to say "Happy New
Year" to every one of you. 2001 was a tough year to many of us. However,
we still firmly believe that Internet is the key of transforming the World.
That is why we are still working in this industry. We wish you all success
in 2002 and beyond.
I think you all agree that every organization needs continuous improvement
in order to sustain. APNIC is no exception and constructive inputs are very
crucial. Around 2 years ago, APNIC did a members survey with the help of
KPMG for formulating the plan for the subsequent years. It has proved to be
very successful. Many thanks to those who have made contributions.
Obviously, the World has changed a lot since then. Therefore, the Executive
Council commissioned KPMG to do the second members survey again before APNIC
formulates its future plan.
The 2001 survey commenced in APNIC Members' Meeting held in Taipei in late
Aug 2001. Afterwards, face-to-face meetings with members and other
stakeholders were held in different countries in the region. Numerous
verbal responses and written responses to the survey have been received.
Many thanks to all respondants for their willingness to participate. Their
inputs are extremely valuable to APNIC.
Now, the report of the survey prepared by KPMG is ready for you to read
(http://www.apnic.net/survey/2001/). Special thanks to John Earls of KPMG
and his colleagues who have spent a lot of time and effort to do this survey
and the report. This is indeed a high quality report.
The Executive Council is now reviewing the report and is preparing to
respond to the valuable inputs by the respondants to the survey, and to
formulate the future plan of APNIC. It is estimated that the EC's formal
response will be ready in around 4 weeks' time. In the mean time, you are
encouraged to read through the report. It should be enjoyable.
Once again, I wish you all a prosperous 2002.
With best regards,
Che-Hoo Cheng
Chairman of Executive Council
