I want to thank you very sincerely for your service as the APNIC policy SIG chair, and for your contributions to the Internet community of this region. I trust that you’ll continue this work, and I hope that we’ll find ourselves working together in future.
Regarding prop 103, that of course was a totally legitimate proposal and a reasonable subject for discussion, however it was abandoned by its author and I think for good reason. After all, it was discussed during a very active Policy SIG meeting, along with 3 other policy proposals (97, 101 and 104), which hardly supported the claim that there was no more need for policy discussion. During APNIC 38 we discussed just one proposal, prop-111, so while it may be true that policy proposals are becoming less frequent, they are certainly continuing.
In future we may have fewer proposals, but we may have more. There are going to be questions about the handling of RPKI, and possibly also about IPv6 policies in future, about whois and related issues. If there are not, then I am sure that the community will eventually come around to the ideas proposed in prop-103.
For those who are interested, these issues were discussed during APNIC 38, during the Policy SIG and also the open mic session of the member meeting. Also the latest APNIC Member Survey addresses some issues of the policy process, and APNIC priorities including “Internet Governance”, which Andy has raised.
