Adam - thank you for this reminder about the nominations closing.
I would like to use this reply to announce that I will not be standing again for the role of Co-Chair (or any other position) with Policy SIG of APNIC at present.
While it has been rewarding to be representing the community in this role, working with the current Chair - has not been.
I believe that since I disagree with the way current Chair has been running Policy SIG, that I should, effective immediately, resign from the role of Co-Chair of APNIC Policy SIG. I will also not be attending Xi'an, but I wish you all well at this conference.
It is my opinion that the roles of Co-Chair are generally irrelevant in the current way the Chair operates the SIG. With the further plans that the current Chair has to change the Policy SIG operation, specifically by removing one of the Co-Chair roles - and his lack of discussion with the Co-Chairs on this (and other) matter(s), I feel my only choice is to opt-out of the process entirely and put the matter up for discussion before the nomination period closes (in 4 days).
The current Chair will say his proposals are due to there not being much policy work to be done... which is true - but why does that even matter? I believe the convention of two Co-Chairs was a good balance to assist the Chair, but also keep them accountable - which in my time as Co-Chair - we've barely been able to.
I am not looking for an argument, but I won't participate further in the lame role I find myself in.
I do believe that the community (as it pertains to Policy SIG) is not presently being represented in the best way possible. But the community itself will have to decide on that - this is just my opinion.
For 4 years I've been following the policy developments, and I've enjoyed getting to know the process and have been actively involved in debating something of these. From when James Spenceley introduced me to the process and I watched him, Gaurab - and yes, even Randy - guide a far more collaborative process which I thought represented the community mostly well. If you wanted something to get through, you had to fight for it and convince your peers of the merits of the policy. It was a strong process (with faults), but I see that being eroded significantly.

This doesn't mean I won't be attending future APNIC's, or even getting involved in the process in future, but for now I will be involved only as a member.
