Getting IPv6 space is easy.
So, if the intent is to notify people that it is easy,
it would be better to word it like
"We noticed you don't have IPv6 space yet. It is very
easy to get IPv6 space. click <here> to apply now"
although I admit it sounds more like promotion rather than policy.
Hasn't that already been done many many times in different ways by
APNIC staff and many other participants?
Do you think its has worked?
I agree that making an effort to help people
deploy IPv6 is very much necessary, but I still don't
understand the problem that we can solve with this.
The problem is that there is very little incentive for anyone to do
anything with v6.
Granted this idea requires a shift in mental attitude from the usual
stance regarding resources which centres around "conservation" and
"restraint" where you exist in a world of scarce resource. The problem
I see is that we have taken those ideals into a structure that needs
almost the opposite to advance the deployment of IPv6 given that the
marketing hasn't kicked the goals expected. I hazard to suggest that
at this point (for v6) the policy space needs to radically evolve to
match the intent. So really moving forward into a realm of proactive
allocation for a period in time.
Is it just about money?
No it isn't about money. that would be easy. :-)
"From day X your member account will be allocated a /32 of IPv6 space
which does not affect your member fees. If you do NOT want this
allocation click <here>"
As I said in an earlier mail, handing out unrequested addresses may
have its consequences, and thus do not support this.
I must have missed your ealier email. Apologies. But if a member can
say NO, they don't want an allocation, I really don't see that as
detrimental. Will people have un-used resources in their MyAPNIC
account. Yes. For a period. Is that a critical issue? I don't thinks so.
