Re: [sig-policy] [Sig-policy] prop-073:Automatic allocation/assignment o
But in response to Randy comments that it will do nothing, I respectfully, but strongly disagree... maybe in your world (or cultural demographic), but there has been a passionate interest amongst our customers, both corporate and ISP's - most of which we're doing IPv6 work with at the moment. Many people we have been talking to are also aware... and with every new customer meeting, IPv6 is involved in the discussion at some point.
Many of these customers are dual stacking all new services that are easy to do at the moment, like web servers/colo, etc.... anything that gets them using it and helps with them getting comfortable.
We will be doing an aggressive rollout of IPv6 across most of our customer networks in the next couple of months, hopefully bringing a good selection of content, access and hosting facilities using IPv6.
That said, our experience is there is a lot of interest and excitement about it, and all customers who we bring on to APNIC are getting IPv6 and are deploying it in parallel with IPv4 (even if their upstreams don't support it, in readiness for when they do).
So in Summary, I think giving members who renew the option to take IPv6, or issuing it to active members to encourage them, cannot possibly hurt anything.
