RE: [JPNIC hostmaster 11830] Information Exchange
It's a good point.
It may be partly due to our culture, but it is also the area we still
need to work on. There are more people involved in discussions
compared to the initial meeting, but most presentations are still made
by JPNIC secretariat or our working group.
We use our mailings lists(LIR and JP address community MLs), post it
on our website and mention it in IP related meetings/trainigs. It may
also be good to suggest some people in your community who has a say to
make a proposal.
We did not start the JPOPM as a totally new meeting, but as a renewal
of an exisitng meeting held annually. This must have helped since we
did not have to build the base from scratch.
We changed the name from Dec 2001, but started the preparation from
Dec 2000. FYI, I list a brief chronology below:
Dec 2000 Held as a program of "Internet Week" as an existing meeting.
It was an offline meeting of our mailing list for IP related
issues. Only panel discussions. No paticipation from
attendees.(3 hrs)
June 2001 Held as a BoF of "N+I Japan" as an existing meeting. Made
CFP, 1 presentation outside JPNIC(2.5 hrs). The meeting was
too short for discussions
Dec 2001 Changed the name to "JPNIC Open Policy Meeting". Held as a
program of IW and had 1 presentation outside JPNIC. (6.5
hrs)Held a seperate joint session with APNIC as a related
session. Received request from attendees to hold an
independent 1 day meeting.
July 2002 The first independent one day meeting. 2 presentations
outside JPNIC(6 hrs)
Dec 2002 Held as a program of IW. 1 presentation outside JPNIC
(6.5 hrs)
I must also note that we had a great contribution from our working
group in starting this meeting.
I hope this helps, and wish you all the best for the coming meeting in
Taiwan!
Regards,
Izumi
