      APNIC OPEN POLICY MEETING REPORT
      ___________________________________________________________

      Dear Colleague,

APNIC's 12th Open Policy Meeting, held in Taipei from 28 to 31 August
was a resounding success. With 234 delegates representing 22
economies, this was by far the best-attended meeting in APNIC's
      history.

APNIC members were well represented with 129 delegates from 53 member
organisations, including the meeting host, TWNIC, and other
National Internet Registries (NIRs). It was particularly pleasing to
see many of the developing economies of the region, such as Vietnam,
Mongolia, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, represented at the meeting.

Representatives from the other RIRs, ARIN and RIPE NCC, and ICANN
were also present, showing strong global interest in the meeting.

A summary of the meeting outcomes is provided below.

      APSTER LAUNCHED

APNIC's new newsletter, APster, was launched at the member meeting.
APster was developed to engage a wide audience of APNIC stakeholders
and to examine those issues relevant to the evolution of the
Internet, with special emphasis on the Asia Pacific region.

The name APster draws its meaning from the suffix 'ster' which means
"one that is associated with, participates in, makes or does". So
APster is for anyone who associates with or participates in the Asia
      Pacific Internet community.

The first edition of APster will be mailed to members and friends of
APNIC shortly, and can also be accessed as a PDF file at:

          http://www.apnic.net/docs/apster

future meetings. So please take a few minutes to complete the online
      evaluation questionnaire at:

      APNIC MEMBER AND STAKEHOLDER SURVEY

This important survey aims to canvas widely the views and inputs of
APNIC's community, and to contribute to APNIC's future planning
processes. It has been commissioned by the APNIC EC and is being
conducted independently by international consulting firm KPMG.

A number of APNIC stakeholders met with the KPMG in Taipei to provide
input to the survey. If you have not yet done so, you may still
provide input via the survey questionnaires which are available at:

         http://www.apnic.net/survey/2001

The deadline for survey forms to be submitted is 30 September 2001.

Please note that you should submit a response even if you have
attended a survey meeting, in Taipei or any other location.
