Auctions are the easiest way to provide the transparency to the market that people have been asking for since IP addresses first began to trade. Buyers and sellers and other intermediaries can learn in real time how prices are trending
and can make informed decisions about how to best allocate their own scarce resources. Additionally, the auction platform is the only way we could address the demand for small blocks. We continually get inquiries for smaller block sizes, from buyers and
sellers, that we cannot handle manually as it is too time consuming for us. The auction platform does not work for everyone in every circumstance, and so we continue to offer our private treaty sale process that we have offered successfully since 2011. Amy From: Mark Mahle [mailto:mm@VR.ORG]
On the other hand, if the auction process is transparent and public it can help set reasonable market price expectations for IPv4 addresses, and even set a standard for transactional fees. Based on personal experience prices and fees quoted from brokers vary wildly- to the point that I'd expect some brokers significantly increase costs in order to bolster commissions. No different from any other
commission based transaction really. Also interesting would be historical and other data based on the auctions that is updated in real time to keep a barometer on the market based on various metrics. (cost / Size of block / source & destination transfer
region / etc.) Thanks, Mark From:
"Skeeve Stevens" <skeeve at eintellegonetworks dot com> I don't so much have an issue with fees... reasonable ones.
But, there is the potential for excessive fees if people aren't aware of what they could/should be paying.

I think a personally negotiated method, where the seller and buyer can come to a mutual agreement is far more appropriate at the moment. Though, as scarcity sets in, I think auctions will be the way things will go... but I don't believe pushing us to that method yet is a good thing for those really in need. ...Skeeve *** eintellego Networks - the only IPv4 Broker located in the APNIC region ***
