[apnic-talk] Internet connectivity in New Caledonia
Hi,
Blandine from APNIC told me there was some questions regarding Internet connectivity in New-Caledonia.
I would be glad to answer.
Basically there is one submarine cable linking Noumea (New-Caledonia) to Sydney.
A second one is on the go and is to be deployed by mid-2019
Internet connection market represents approx. 75 000 connections, mainly DSL (about 75 percent), we have a fiber rollout program ongoing, with 8000 FTTH customers nowadays.
We have 5 ISP's, and my company OPT-NC is in charge of broadband wholesale, as well as the owner of the last mile.
The main point with hotels, is that they don't charge anything for basic Internet connection, but then the data volume is very short.
