Re: [apnic-talk] IANA Globalization Progress
I think one of the most important things here is to get the important
information out to the community, encourage people to become
knowledgable about the issues, and contribute to them where they feel
appropriate.
To that end InternetNZ group staff have prepared a short paper to help
inform people about the debate regarding the transition of the United
States Government's DNS responsibilities to the global
multistakeholder community.
The paper explores the nature of what exactly is being transitioned,
and then analyses the actual DNS functions at the global level,
locates these in current institutional configurations, and then sets
out a few options for alternative arrangements.
None of these are necessarily an InternetNZ preferred model. Our
purpose in publishing this paper is to help the discussion happen, and
to show there are many possible ways to organise the DNS settlement
after the USG exits from its current role.
I am posting the information here in the hope that APNIC members find
it a useful resource with which to start providing feedback to ICANN
on this topic.
