14th APNIC Open Policy Meeting
3-6 September 2002
Kitakyushu, Japan
Dear Colleague,
APNIC's 14th Open Policy Meeting is now only four weeks away. If you
have not registered yet I urge you to do so as soon as possible.
This is an update announcement about the Open Policy Meeting, with
reminders of some important events and dates.

Early bird registration extended
--------------------------------
If you haven't already registered for the Open Policy Meeting you can
take advantage of the early bird registration fee which has been
extended to Friday 16th August.
Early registration assists APNIC greatly in planning for the meeting,
and also provides a large saving of US$150 on the normal registration
fee.
Online registration supports secure credit card payment, and is

Citizens of some countries may need to apply for entry visas in advance.
It is essential to register early to allow sufficient time for visas to
be processed. Details of the visa application process are available at:

Final call for presentations
----------------------------
All those with an interest in Internet policy issues are encouraged to
contribute to the discussions in the Special Interest Groups (SIGs) and
the NIR meeting. Proposals for presentations have been extended to 12
August 2002 and should be submitted to the respective Chair with a copy
to <sig at apnic dot net>. Details of the SIGs are available at:

Programme update
----------------
There will be a wide choice of tutorials at APNIC 14, including:
- Multihoming
- Building Internet exchanges
- DNS security
- IPv6
- Internet routing registry
- Whois v3 database
- APNIC Training
Attendance at each half day tutorial is US$50 for APNIC members and
US$100 for non-members.
All meeting sessions will be conducted in English. However, the meeting
host, JPNIC, will provide Japanese language translations for the
following SIGs:
- Address Policy
- IPv6 (Technical)
APIA and APOPS are also conducting a joint forum, which has an Internet
security theme, in conjunction with APNIC 14. The Forum will be held on
Monday 2 and Tuesday 3 September 2002 at the Kitakyushu International
Conference Center. It is open to all and no additional registration is
required. Details of the Forum are available at:

Address Council nominations
---------------------------
This is a reminder about the call for nominations of individuals from
the Asia Pacific region to serve on the ASO Address Council. During
October 2002, one Asia Pacific Address Council seat will become vacant,
and will be filled for the next three years by an individual nominated
through this open call.
The selection process will involve an open election to be held during
the Open Policy Meeting on 5 September 2002. Nominations must be
received by midnight GMT on 21 August 2002. Details of the Address
