Re: [apnic-talk] [apnic-announce] Test Whois v3 now
Hi Kuniaki.
To answer your questions and provide some background, both APIRR
and the soon to be deployed v3 APNIC services are based on the RIPE
whois v3 code and have the same RPSL schema. The APNIC whois v3
database will be enabled for all RPSL routing objects from the
first day of service.
However, we do not intend adding this source to the IRR coordinated
mirror scheme until some time after we convert from the current v2
R181 based system.
So after we go live on August 20 you can make routing objects, and
use RTConfig and other tools to examine them, and configure local
routing behaviors, but they won't have effect in other RPSL/IRR
based router configurations if they take configuration from RADB
or other mirrors of APIRR.
APIRR is the current v3 database which is enabled in the global
IRR system and for people who wish to explore globally visible RPSL
based routing declarations in IRR, we recommend continued use of
this system until we merge the services in December.
In December, we will take the routing objects from APIRR, and review
them (with their maintainers) against the APNIC contents to decide
which should be kept and maintained in source APNIC. Source APNIC
will be added to the global IRR framework, and will be visible at
RADB and other mirrors worldwide. Mirrors of other peoples routing
databases currently visible on APIRR will be moved to the same
whois search service as source APNIC. At that stage we will finally
be running a fully merged allocation/assignment registry and routing
registry service.
We will then withdraw source APIRR from the global IRR, and from
service. Future IRR activities will continue based on the initiatives
explored in the APIRR service, and we will of course continue to
promote IRR, mirroring and coordination of services in the APNIC
region and internationally.
