Seasons Greetings!
As you may know, APRICOT2000 will be held in Seoul from Feb 28 - Mar 2 2000.
This year we are expecting between 500-800 engineers and executives to
attend the event, which will be held at the Sheraton Walker Hill Hotel in
Seoul (http://www.walkerhill.co.kr).
This year, we have orchestrated a full APRICOT Fellowship Programme to allow
for more delegates from developing markets to attend -- so far we have
received 66 applications from 33 countries! Sponsors can earmark 10% of the
financial sponsorship contribution to support this Fellowship Programme
The final Call for Speakers has been recently issued (please contact Robert
Berger rberger at ibd dot com if you would like to speak or present at the event).
Please see http://www.apricot2000.ne.kr for details concerning APRICOT2000
including the Sponsorship Invitation and Agreement.
[Note: there are three sponsorship categories Platinum (US$ 20,000), Gold
(US$ 10,000) and Silver (US$ 5,000) -- with a 25% discount for Early Bird
sponsors before 11th January. All hospitality suites are allocated on a
first-come-first-served basis]
As far as APRICOT2001, the Request For Proposals to host the event is now
available from the http://www.apricot.net website.
Once again, thank you for your interest and generous support of APRICOT
(the Asia Pacific Regional Internet Conference on Operational
Technologies) -- the region's premier Internet Operations forum.
Looking forward to seeing you all in Seoul!
Yours sincerely,
Pindar Wong
Chairman
APRICOT2000 Executive Committee

CALL FOR INSTRUCTORS, SESSION CHAIRS and SPEAKERS: APRICOT2000
http://www.apricot2000.ne.kr
Last year's Apricot '99 in Singapore was a great success and the upcoming
Apricot 2000 in Seoul is looking to be even bigger and more impactful.
We are now looking for people who would like to contribute to the program in
the form of offering a full day tutorial and/or participating in the 1.5
hour technical conference sessions (each speaker would get 20 - 30 minutes).
As we get back the responses to this mailing, the conference committee will
make a mapping of people to tracks/sessions and thus the final technical
program. So if you are interested in participating, please get back to us
ASAP (before Dec 24th) as to your interest and potential talk titles as we
expect to make the final decisions in early January.
When considering a subject, remember that the audience is mainly technical
network operators and engineers with a wide range of experience levels from
beginners to multi-year experience. There is a strong orientation to offer
core skills and basic knowledge in the tutorials and to address issues
relevant to the day-to-day operations of ISPs over the next 12 - 18 months.
The technical conference sessions we are looking for people to act as
session chairs and to speak on are:
- High Performance IP Backbone Routing and management
- Content Distribution Networks, Streaming and Multimedia Infrastructure
- Unified Messaging, EMail scaling, SPAM
- Voice over IP and Voice/ Internet Infrastructure Integration
- Security, Encryption, Firewalls, VPNs
- QoS, Traffic Management, MPLS, Multicast and Caching
- Peering, Settlements and Collocation
- Alternative Last Mile Connectivity (xDSL, Wireless, Cable)
- ISP Management
- ASP Opportunities and Technologies
- Network Game Technologies
The sessions are 1.5 hours long and the individual session talks will be
from 15 minutes to 45 minutes depending on how many other speakers are in
the same session. The content and presenter must be of a technical nature
and not delivering a superficial marketing or commercial message.
We still have several tutorial slots open, so if you would like to give one
of the full day tutorials, please submit it. Tutorial Instructors are
encouraged to also sign up to be a Conference Session Chair or speaker as
well. The tutorial topics that still need to be covered are:
- Voice over IP Standards, Efforts and Impacts on ISPs
- Network Security for ISPs
- Computer Telephony Integration and Voice over IP for ISPs
- ISP System Administration
- Scaling E-mail infrastructure
- Supporting E-Commerce and ASPs
- Last Mile Innovations: Wireless, xDSL and Cable Modem
Though there are a limited number of tutorial slots there may be one or two
openings for something that is not listed above. If you have an idea for a
tutorial subject that is not listed, please submit it.
IMPORTANT NOTE: ALL SPEAKERS AND PRESENTATIONS MUST BE OF A TECHNICAL NATURE
AND NOT MARKETING MESSAGES OR DELIVERED BY MARKETEERS or SALESPEOPLE!
This is a TECHNICAL conference and having a marketing or sales person
deliver a superficial or commercial presentation will be bad for the
reputation of your company and degrade the focus of the conference. Besides
the content of the presentation being technical it is important that the
presenter be capable of delivering insightful and technically deep responses
in question and answer periods that will be part of all sessions.
Since APRICOT is a not-for-profit event that tries to keep the cost to
attendees low, we do not have too much money to pay the costs of speakers.
So if you belong to a company or organization that can cover you travel
expenses, that is a big help. For those of you who do not belong to such an
organization, Apricot will cover 4 days of hotel accommodation for Tutorial
Instructors from Overseas. Apricot can also consider covering airfare up to
US$1500 on a case by case basis. Local Tutorial Instructors can receive a
US$500 honorarium but no Hotel accommodations. It is ok to split the work of
a full day tutorial between several instructors, but APRICOT may only be
able to cover the hotel accommodations and case by case airfare for one
person per Tutorial. Of course, Tutorial, Conference Chairs and Speakers
will not have to pay any registration fee to attend the rest of the
conference.
If you would like to be considered as a Session chair, tutorial instructor
or a session speaker, please send your contact info, proposed tutorial or
talk title with a brief abstract in ASCII, RTF, PDF format via email to:
Robert J. Berger - Technical Conference Chair Voice: +1-408-882-4755 Fax:
+1-408-490-2868 mailto:rjbApricot at ibd dot com
You can also send any questions to the above email or phone as well as to:
JongWon Choe Technical Conference Co-Chair mailto:choejn at sookmyung dot ac dot kr
More information on the conference will be made available at
http://www.apricot2000.ne.kr
If you are not the right person from your organization to speak at such a
technical conference or if you are not available, please forward this
invitation onto someone who might be available and would be appropriate for
the APRICOT conference.
