[apnic-talk] [apnic-announce] ARIN/Internic Handles
[Note "reply-to:" field]
The text below is an email from Kim Hubbard to ARIN members.
It is being forwarded to the APNIC-announce mailing list for
information.
Please note that the POC records and handles referred to below
can still be found in their original form in the Internic database
and are unchanged. In migrating the IP and AS data from the Internic
to the ARIN database, all associated POC records and handles were
given the sufix -ARIN.
regards,
Anne

ARIN Members,
As you know, the ARIN staff are attempting to "clean up" the ARIN database.
This will be a long process as there is a lot of very outdated data.
During this process, we have located approximately 25,000 "orphaned" POC
records, that is, points of contact that have no relation to any network,
host or ASN record in the ARIN database. Most of the data on these
orphaned POCs is outdated and the current procedure only allows for new
ARIN handles to be created if the individual is the POC for a network,
host or ASN record.
We plan to delete these 25,000 orphaned ARIN handles but first wanted
to give you the opportunity to comment and give you a heads up. We plan
to delete them in about two week's time.
Thanks,
Kim Hubbard
