16th APNIC Open Policy Meeting
19-22 August 2003
Seoul, Korea
Dear APNIC members and friends,
It is my pleasure to invite you to attend APNIC's 16th Open Policy
Meeting, being held in Seoul, Korea from 19 to 22 August 2003. The
meeting will be held at the Lotte Hotel, Seoul Jamsil and will be hosted
by the Korea Network Information Center (KRNIC).
APNIC meetings are a major forum for discussing technology and policy
issues relevant to the Asia Pacific Internet community. APNIC 16 will
include Tutorials, an Opening Plenary, Special Interest Groups (SIGs),
Birds of a Feather sessions (BOFs), Hostmaster consultations, the APNIC
Member Meeting, and social events. A draft schedule is available at:

1. Address Council election
---------------------------
One seat on the Asia Pacific Address Council will become vacant during
October 2003. An open call for nominations of individuals from the Asia
Pacific region to fill the position for the next three years has been
made. The selection process will involve an election to fill the vacancy
during APNIC 16 on Friday 22 August 2003. Nominations must be received
by 23 July 2003. The nomination form is available at:

2. Fellowships
--------------
For the first time APNIC is offering a limited number of fellowships to
allow members of the Internet community in the least developed countries
(LDCs) of the Asia Pacific region to attend APNIC 16. The fellowship
programme targets key staff from organisations developing or providing
Internet services within LDCs. Details of the fellowships and the
application form are available at:

3. Call for proposals
---------------------
The SIG meetings held at APNIC meetings are open fora at which
technical, policy, and operational issues relating to the management of
Internet Resources within the Asia Pacific region are discussed. Anyone
interested in contributing to the SIGs is invited to submit an
Informational (I) or Policy (P) proposal to the appropriate SIG chair,
with a copy to <sig at apnic dot net>.
Policy (P) proposals must be submitted by 21 July 2003. Details are
