14th APNIC Open Policy Meeting
3-6 September 2002
Kitakyushu, Japan
Dear Colleague,
APNIC's 14th Open Policy Meeting will be held at the Kitakyushu
International Conference Center, Japan from 3 to 6 September 2002. The
Japan Network Information Center (JPNIC) is hosting and providing local
support for the meeting, including assistance with visa applications
(see below).
The APNIC meeting is open to anyone with an interest in the Internet in
the Asia Pacific region. Registration for APNIC members is available at
a discounted rate, and an early bird discount is available until 2
August 2002.

Register by 2 August for the early bird fee
-------------------------------------------
To receive the early bird registration fee, a saving of $US150 for the
Open Policy Meeting, please register by Friday 2 August 2002. Attendance
at the APNIC Member Meeting on 6 September 2002 is free of charge for
APNIC members. Members should quote their Account Name on the
registration form to ensure that the correct member rates are applied.

Visa applications
-----------------
Citizens of some countries may need to apply for entry visas in advance.
It is strongly recommended that delegates contact their local Japanese
Consular Office as soon as possible to determine if a visa is required.
Visa applications can only be processed after registering for the
meeting and making hotel reservations. Details of the visa application

Accommodation
-------------
APNIC has arranged block hotel bookings, providing special discount
rates for meeting delegates at three hotels near the Conference Center.
Delegates should make hotel reservations as soon as possible to avoid
disappointment. All enquiries about hotel reservations should be made to
the Japan Travel Bureau (JTB) which is administering the block booking.

Call for sponsorships
---------------------
APNIC is offering sponsorship opportunities for the meeting. Sponsor
contributions provide valuable support for APNIC meetings. A range of
sponsorship options is available, providing an opportunity to support
this important event, and promote your organisation within the Asia
Pacific Internet community. Approximately 200-250 delegates from the
region and elsewhere in the world are expected to attend. The
sponsorship package is available at:

Sponsorships fill on first-come first-served basis, so it is important
to lodge an early expression of interest to secure the desired
sponsorship option.
Translation services
--------------------
All meeting sessions will be conducted in English. However, JPNIC will
provide a Japanese translation service for the following sessions:
- APNIC Training
- Whois v3 Database tutorial
- Internet Routing Registry (IRR) tutorial
- Database SIG
- IPv6 (Technical) SIG
- Address Policy SIG
- APNIC Member Meeting
The conference facilities will also allow for translation to a limited
number of additional languages. However, interested organisations will

Call for presentations closes 1 August 2002

The Chairs of the Special Interest Groups (SIGs) and the NIR meeting
have previously called for presentations. This is an opportunity to
contribute to the formulation of Internet resource polices in an open
consensus environment. APNIC encourages those with an interest in the
Internet in the Asia Pacific region to submit proposals to the
respective Chair with a copy to <sig at apnic dot net> by 1 August 2002.
