[apnic-announce] New IPv6 policy to commence on 1 July 2002
[Note "reply-to:" field]
New IPv6 policy to commence on 1 July 2002
==========================================
A common global IPv6 policy has now been accepted by consensus in all
Regional Internet Registry (RIR) communities – APNIC, ARIN and RIPE NCC.
This new global IPv6 policy will be implemented by all RIRs from 1 July
2002.
Allocation size
---------------
Under the new policy, the minimum allocation size has increased
significantly from /35 to /32, providing 16 bits of available address space.
Applications
------------
Applicants will still need to meet certain criteria before an initial
allocation is granted. As before, the new policy framework requires that the
applicant submit a network plan that shows details of infrastructure
together with a plan to support at least 200 customer assignments within two
years. It is no longer necessary to have 3 BGP peers in the default free
zone.
Upgrading previous /35 allocations
----------------------------------
Under the new policy members holding the current minium IPv6 allocation
(/35) will also have the option of increasing their address holding to the
new minimum allocation (/32).
Documentation
-------------
The draft of the new IPv6 policy can be accessed from the APNIC IPv6
resource guide. Amended IPv6 documents and the revised IPv6 application form
will also be available on 1 July 2002 from the IPv6 resource guide at:
http://www.apnic.net/services/ipv6_guide.html
Proposed fee change
-------------------
As part of the implementation process The APNIC Executive Council has also
proposed amendments to the Membership Fee Schedule. The effect of the
proposed amendment would be to ensure that the minimum allocation of IPv6
address space continues to correspond with the "Small" member category.
Details of the proposal are available at:
http://www.apnic.net/ipv6-fees
Comments on the proposal should be directed to the apnic-talk mailing list
before 30 June 2002.
Best regards,
