To whom it may concern,
It is my pleasure to invite you to attend APNIC's 12th Open Policy Meeting,
which will be held at The Grand Hotel in Taipei, Taiwan, from Tuesday 28 to
Friday 31 August 2001.
APNIC meetings are a major forum for discussing technology and policy issues
relevant to the Asia Pacific Internet community. The programme will include
training sessions, Special Interest Groups (SIGs), Birds of a Feather
sessions (BOFs), hostmaster consultations, the APNIC Member Meeting and
social events. For the first time, there will also be an intensive training
workshop, on ISP/IXP implementation issues.
The APNIC meeting is open to anyone with an interest in the Internet in
this region. Registration for APNIC members is available at a discounted
rate, and an early bird discount is also offered to anyone registering
before 27 July 2001.

registrations. The consultation session timetable will be published on
the meeting web site in due course, and registration for these sessions
will commence around 2 weeks before the meeting.
4. Special Internet Groups
==========================
In preparation for the Open Policy meeting, APNIC has released a number of
'Calls for Proposals' to the Special Interest Group Sessions (SIGs). The SIG
content covers areas such as IPv6, Internet Address Policy, DNS, Database
and Routing. Details of these announcements can be found at:
http://www.apnic.net/meetings/12/sigs
The deadline for expressing interest in making a proposal has been extended
to 29 June 2001. If you would like to make a presentation in one of the
above SIGs, or raise any questions, concerns, or other agenda items for
discussion, please register these by emailing <sig at apnic dot net>, copying the
appropriate SIG chair.
5. Registration and Payment
===========================
It will be possible to register online for the meeting from Friday 6 July
2001. Payment via a secure online credit card payments processing system
will be possible. Other payment options are available too. The early bird
registration is open until Friday 27 July 2001 and offers a considerable
saving of US$150 to APNIC members.
6. Meeting Sponsorship
======================
As usual, APNIC is seeking sponsors for the meeting, and a range of options
is available. Sponsorships provide an opportunity for you to support this
important event, and promote your organisation within a strong community of
Internet engineers and managers.
Approximately 200 delegates from the region and elsewhere in the world are
expected to attend. Details of the sponsorship packages and benefits are
available at:
http://www.apnic.net/meetings/12/sponsors
Sponsorships fill on first come first served basis, so I'd urge you to
provide an expression of interest at the earliest possible date.
7. Address Council Election
===========================
APNIC is calling for nominations of individuals from the Asia Pacific
region, to serve on the ASO Address Council. During October 2001, one Asia
Pacific Address Council seat will become vacant, and will be filled for the
next three years by an individual nominated through this open call. The
selection process will involve an open election to be held during the Open
Policy Meeting in Taipei. Further details and a nomination form can be found
at:
http://www.apnic.net/meetings/12/ac
8. ISP/IXP Workshop
===================
For the first time at an Open Policy Meeting, APNIC is coordinating an
ISP/IXP Workshop which will provide detailed instruction on how to design,
scale and maintain an Internet Service Provider (ISP) network or Internet
eXchange Point (IXP). The workshop instructor will be Philip Smith of Cisco
Systems, who is one of the most respected Internet engineers in the region.
This workshop will be held at the Grand Hotel in Taipei from Wednesday 22
to Sunday 26 August 2001. Because the workshop is being run by APNIC and
Philip Smith on a cost-recovery basis, preference will be given to APNIC
members from developing countries.
Further details of the workshop will be announced on APNIC's website
shortly.
If you have any questions or suggestions about the Open Policy Meeting,
please contact us by email to <meetings at apnic dot net>
I look forward to seeing you in Taipei!
Best regards,
Paul Wilson,
Director General
