This is a reminder about the final call for comments for the following
policy proposal:

"4-byte AS number policy proposal"

The "4-byte AS number policy proposal" was presented at APNIC 21 and
was accepted by consensus. The proposal was then submitted to the
sig-policy mailing list on 17 March 2006 for an eight week discussion
period.
There are now only a few days left to have your say on this proposal.
At the end of the comment period, if consensus appears to have been
achieved, the Chair of the Policy SIG will ask the Executive
Council to endorse the proposal for implementation.

Proposal details

- Commencing on 1 January 2007, the registry will process applications
for 32-bit only AS numbers upon specific request. 16-bit only AS
numbers will be assigned by default.
- Commencing on 1 January 2009,the registry will assign 32-bit only AS
numbers by default. 16-bit only AS numbers will be assigned upon
specific request.
- Commencing on 1 January year 2010, the registry will assign from the
extended AS number space.
