Hello everybody,
we were discussing about an additional IRT Object in prop-079.
Thanks for all people who supported this proposal.
But I was as well looking at all problematic aspects of this proposal
and the one that was mentioned most of the time was data accuracy in the
whois database.
So Mark Foster made an comment that was really helpfull, when he said,
that it would make sense to ask all Netrange Owners frequently to check
their whois information. I have heared that this happens at several
domain registars on a yearly basis.
I talked to APNIC policy office and they said that this idea would make
sense. They also said, that there is no need for a policy proposal,
because APNIC could implement this without asking, but they would be
happy to hear from you what could be the best way to do this.
And that's the reason for this email ;-)
To start a discussion I just post some questions here:
What do you think about this? How could that exactly look like?
Is there a need to request updates for every single object?
Which would be the right address to send these requests to?
Is there a need for feedback even if there is nothing to change?
Could APNIC establish penalties for not updating or keeping data
accurate? For example not delegate new ranges to the Netrange Owner in
question until data is accurate.
IMHO I think all this should be put into a policy, that way APNIC has
the power from their members to do so.
Thanks,
Tobias
