Dear Cooperation SIG Members,

The next meeting of the Cooperation SIG is at 16:30 on Sunday, 25 February during APNIC 45 in Kathmandu, Nepal.

The Cooperation SIG is a forum for discussing broader Public Policy issues pertaining to Internet and its Governance.

This year's  theme for the Cooperation SIG be " WHOIS Accuracy : Present Status and its Challenges "

APNIC Whois data base is always in the discussion and gained importance as demand for IP addresses are increasing exponentially due to increasing Internet users and emerging IoT echo system. The traditional clients of the whois services are network operators and security agencies who need to trace operational  and security issues which are identified by IP address.

These days more people are starting to rely on whois, especially in tracking security and criminal issues. This is referred to “attribution” of online behaviour to a particular person, and the whois database is an important tool to help with attribution.

Efforts are going on  by researchers and developers to improve the quality of the data for the benefit of network operators, end users, and law enforcement  agencies (LEAs).

This session will run for 90 minutes to hear from various stakeholders  of APNIC’s WHOIS  services, and try to understand their needs and expectations.

If you a re attending APNIC 45 and are interested in presenting to the SIG, please send a short synopsis to <sig-cooperation-chair@apnic.net>.

You may submit the proposal immediately.

We look forward to seeing you in Kathmandu.

Best Regards,

Dr. Govind & Billy
