Bula Guys
I went to one of the resorts in the weekend and met the IT admin there. He told me about this software he is using in his network. It is a firewall and web proxy. According to him this software has reduced 30% - 40% of his net traffic. The good thing is it is free open source, it might not be that useful to companies that provide international link n stuff. But if we pass this down to IT guys in private companies in our countries it will help them a lot.

Bula All
I am trying to configure a Cisco 1841 router with 2 Fast Ethernet interfaces to do PPPoE ( CHAP authentication). I have tried all the solution I could find in Google and it is not working. Cisco says this router supports PPPoE. Does anyone know how to do this.
cheers

colleagues,
I read this on ARINs mailing list - so thought I'd share it in pacnog
ML as well.
"ARIN has set up a wiki at http://www.getipv6.info to publish
information
that will help ISPs, large and small in implementing IPv6 and migrating
to an IPv6 Internet."
Happy reading.
BTW - if information about the next APNIC training in the region has
not reached you yet, there's two coming up shortly:
1) USP is hosting an APNIC training in Suva next week so if people
are interested to attend go register as places are available.
http://www.apnic.net/training/registration/2007/register-20071002.html
2) And if you are in Port Moresby, PNG a training is also scheduled
to be hosted by ITI from 29 Oct - 1 Nov.
Cheers,
Save
A little late & slightly rough, but this should help somewhat ....

Hi All,
There are known ports that we block incoming by default for all hosts on our
networks,
I am wondering if I'm missing any, or if I'm supposed to,
I am typically blocking the following ports by default for all ip
aggregations on inbound ACLs at the border gateway,
We are multihomed to four different ISPs,
tcp
22
telnet
135
137
138
139
445
512
513
514
515
1433
1434
1512
1645
1646
1812
1813
and
udp
22
tftp
rip
135
netbios-dgm
netbios-ns
netbios-ss
snmp
snmptrap
445
512
513
514
1433
1434
1512
1645
1646
1812
1813
Instead of doing this at the border router, Is there something we can do as
a community to setup a generic firewall that sits between our border gateway
and our network to protect our users?
Is there a good cost effective commercial appliance that will do this for
us?
Appreciate any comments,
Regards,
Chan
