Webinar on IPv6 Migration: Need, Issues and Process
Date: 18-04-2022 Time: 11.00 AM IST   :   5.30 AM UTC
From Internet Society India Hyderabad Chapter

Abstract: The ISoc Hyderabad Chapter Working Group on IPv6 is focusing on capacity building from the Knowledge Sessions and IPv6 Deployment Projects, to engage their ISoc Academic Hubs on the most happening Technology.

IPv6 is one of the building blocks for new protocols at the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). For example, much of the new work in Internet-of-Things (IoT) and Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communication requires IPv6. Besides solving the address depletion problem, IPv6 brings advantages like delay-efficient routing and packet processing, better security measures, simplified network configuration, and proper end-to-end connectivity for peer-to-peer applications. Migration, especially for large end-user organizations, comes with some challenges in revising operational procedures and understanding the complexities of the new protocol. This talk will discuss the motivation to migrate Institutional networks to IPv6, the significance of being IPv6-ready, and the challenges and opportunities depending on the experience gained while migrating a Institutional campus network to IPv6 in India.

Experiences of two organizations, India Internet Engineering Society (IIESoc) and Industry Network Technology Council (INTC), actively working on IPv6 deployments, will be discussed.
