Announcement: Third APNIC survey now starting

To APNIC members, friends and others, As announced last month, the third APNIC Member and Stakeholder Survey is now starting. The survey is being conducted by Dr John Earls of the international Financial and Consulting firm KPMG. The aims of this survey to widely canvas the views and inputs of APNIC's community, and to contribute to APNIC's future planning processes. As an open membership-based organisation, APNIC will value and act on the results of this survey, in our genuine efforts to continuously improve services and activities. As in previous surveys, responses will be compiled by KPMG, who will protect the anonymity of all contributions. Responses will be accepted in any of the major languages of the Asia Pacific region. For all survey documentation, please see the survey website, at: http://www.apnic.net/survey/2004 The APNIC EC strongly encourages all interested parties to participate in this important process. We hope to present preliminary results of the survey at the coming APNIC Open Policy Meeting, to be held in Fiji later in 2004. APNIC New IPv6 address block

Dear colleagues APNIC received the IPv6 address range 2001:4400::/23 from IANA in June 2004 and will be making allocations from this range in the near future. This announcement is being made for the information of the Internet community, and so that network configurations such as routing filters may be updated as appropriate. The meeting is open to anyone with an interest in the Internet in this region. It will be held at Sheraton Fiji Resort, Nadi, Fiji, from 31 August to 3 September 2004. Contents -------- 1. Meeting registration ----------------------- Registration is now open. To take advantage of early bird discount, please register by Friday 30 July 2004. Meeting programme -------------------- The meeting programme will include tutorials, Special Interest Groups (SIGs), Birds of a Feather sessions (BOFs), hostmaster consultations, APNIC Member Meeting (AMM) and social events. Call for SIG Proposals ------------------------- The SIGs are open sessions at APNIC Open Policy Meetings during which technical, policy and operational issues relating to the management of Internet resources within the Asia Pacific region are discussed. Fellowship programme ----------------------- APNIC 18 Fellowship programme has been offered to allow members of the Internet community in the developing economies of the Asia Pacific region to attend in Nadi Fiji during August and September 2004. Meeting sponsorship ---------------------------- Some sponsorship opportunities are still available. Notice: Asia Pacific ASO Address Council election

Dear Colleague, Under the terms of the current ASO Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the next election for an Asia-Pacific seat on the ASO Address Council is due to be held during the APNIC 18 meeting in Fiji in September 2004. However, the Number Resource Organization (NRO) and ICANN have signed a letter of intent to form a new ASO MoU, which is expected to finalised sometime in the next few months. Therefore, the APNIC Executive Council has decided to defer the AC election, pending a final outcome in the MoU negotiations. _____________________________ APNIC 18 - Call for proposals _____________________________ 18th APNIC Open Policy Meeting 31 August - 3 September 2004 Nadi, Fiji Dear Colleagues, The next Special Interest Group (SIG) meetings will be held in Nadi, Fiji during APNIC's 18th Open Policy Meeting. The SIGs are open fora for discussing technical, policy and operational issues relating to the management of Internet resources within the Asia Pacific region. This e-mail is a request for contributions. Policy proposals and presentations are welcome from anyone interested in the management of Internet Resources in the Asia Pacific region. There are two types of presentations that can be made at a SIG. There are policy proposals (P) or informational (I) presentations. Policy proposals need to be submitted to the appropriate SIG mailing list in text 4 weeks in advance of the meeting. Requests to give an informational presentation can be made at any time to the SIG chair. If you would like to make a proposal to a SIG at the meeting in Fiji, please do so by 4 August 2004, using the online form at: http://www.apnic.net/cgi-bin/policy_proposal.pl Alternatively you can send your proposal in TEXT format to the appropriate SIG, cc'ing <sig(a)apnic.net>. Proposals will be forwarded to the appropriate SIG mailing list by the Secretariat. The chairs and co-chairs of the appropriate SIGs will review the proposals. Upcoming APNIC system maintenance - temporary disruptions scheduled for 5 June 2004

Dear colleagues The APNIC Secretariat has scheduled maintenance and upgrade work on some APNIC's systems, to be performed on Saturday 5 June 2004. The details of work are as follows: -------------------------------- Certification Authority system -------------------------------- APNIC will upgrade its Certification Authority system on Saturday 5 June 2004. The registration site (https://www.apnic.net/ca) will not be available while this upgrade is being performed. Certification Authority services will resume on 6 June. -------------------------------- Other general maintenance -------------------------------- APNIC is also conducting a series of maintenance procedures on Saturday 5 June 2004, from 10:00am - 10:15am and 12:00pm to 12:15pm (UTC + 10 hrs). During those times, access to the following services will be disrupted: - www.apnic.net - whois queries - whois updates - mail service (receipt and delivery) - DNS We apologise for any inconvenience these disruptions may cause.
