Re: [Wg-rms] Stepping down from co-chair role
Hi all,
It's Nhung, IP host master of VNNIC. Though became an NIR since 2003 but VNNIC still update APNIC
Registry and
whois database by email. I just use myapnic for creating reverse domain object. All other objects is
more convenience update by email than myapnic. Actually, we use a "home brewed" IP management
systems as Tim said. Thingking of a new system may take a while. So, it's very very bad for us if
this prop-037-v001 was approval.
Regards
Nhung

Hi,
I'll go first then shall I:)
My main interest is in regards to point 1 below.
I think deprecating email updates would be a very bad idea.
Many members currently use "home brewed" IP management systems which
rely on email updates. Deprecating these would mean costly and time
consuming rewrites of these systems, which to be quite frank, are
probably very low on the list of priorities for most small/medium ISPs
these days.
If other RIRs are able to provide email updates, I don't see why APNIC
can't continue to.
MyAPNIC is already there for those who are concerned about security. I
see no reason to spend money duplicating this functionality through
other systems, whilst at the same time removing an existing system which
is heavily relied upon by the "little guys".
Cheers,
Tim.

All,
Anyone who would like to take the co-chair role? Please let me know
if you have intension.
Since we have just one month to the holiday season, it's time to start
discussion. The followings are my ideas for discussion in this
working group:
1. prop-037-v001: Deprecation of email updates for APNIC Registry and
whois data
http://www.apnic.net/docs/policy/proposals/prop-037-v001.html
2. Deployment of the new APNIC reverse DNS management system
3. Dependability of the APNIC resource management system
Any comments are welcome.
Regards,
Shin
