[SIG-IX] Summary of IX SIG from APNIC 20

Dear colleagues

The IX SIG was held today during APNIC 20 in Hanoi.

We had a relatively short agenda today, with 5 reports.

Nobuhisa Miyake presented an update on the activities of JPNAP, an IX
located in Tokyo and Osaka. He was able to report aggregate traffic of
77G at both JPNAP sites, and that traffic has grown by between 1.5-2
times over the past year. He also looked at several technical issues
faced by the IX over the last year.

Gaurab Raj Upadhaya presented updates on both the NPIX in Nepal and the
BDIX in Bangladesh, and looked at a variety of technical and policy
developments within these two IXes as their traffic grows. He noted,
however, that the bulk of traffic through the BDIX remained email
content, with the bulk of viewed web content being internationally-based.

Tran Kien of VNNIC presented an update on the Vietnamese National IX,
VNIX, another young IX growing quickly, particularly with a number of
well-known Vietnamese websites having recently moved to local service
providers.

Finally, Jordi Palet gave a presentation on the activities of Euro6ix, a
project created to deploy IX exchanges supporting IPv6 to as many
countries as possible. The speaker noted that the project had concluded
successfully in June 2005, and that some helpful documents could be
found on the website.

There was also some general discussion regarding IPv6 address
assignments to Exchange Points.

There are no outstanding action items.

All presentations from the SIG is available from:

best wishes!
