[sig-dns] IETF 70
Well, my final 2007 DNS trip is over, the IETF 70th meeting held Dec
2-7 in Vancouver, Canada.
During the meeting there were few sessions relating to DNS.
DNSOP continues to meet and work on documents.
draft-ietf-dnsop-reverse-mapping-considerations-05 is still in the
works. It is still awaiting WGLC. (I can't recall why though.)
To see other activity in the group, here is the agenda listing
documents that were mentioned during the session:
http://www3.ietf.org/proceedings/07dec/agenda/dnsop.txt
ENUM also continues to meet, despite plans to shut it down. (There
was talk that the Chicago meeting in July would be it's last, now it
seems that there will even be a meeting of the group next spring in
Philadelphia.)
In particular, I think this draft is worth reviewing:
http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-ietf-enum-experiences-08.txt
and this also relates experiences:
http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-ietf-enum-softswitch-req-01.txt
The group's meeting agenda is here, it includes a nice summary of why
each item is present:
http://www3.ietf.org/proceedings/07dec/agenda/enum.txt
DNSEXT continues to be in a suspended state, not meeting but having
an active mailing list and not quite retired by the IETF.
Post-meeting (meaning the week after the the IETF in Vancouver) a
document appeared and has had some discussion on the ENUM mailing
list but will probably make it's way into DNSEXT. The documeent is
http://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-kaplan-enum-source-uri-00
This is not an "approved" document, just a suggestion. It is worth
reading, along with the threads beginning with this message on the
ENUM archive:
http://www1.ietf.org/mail-archive/web/enum/current/msg05902.html
(The IETF mail archives are quite hard to navigate, you can see the
lists of messages on this topic on these pages:
http://www1.ietf.org/mail-archive/web/enum/current/mail2.html and
http://www1.ietf.org/mail-archive/web/enum/current/index.html
The pages will change over time unfortunately. The date of the first
message is Dec., 11, 2007 - there are many in the following days.)
