[sig-dns] RIPE Community Requests that ICANN Signs DNS Root

I would send the archive URL for this message, but there seems to be a glitch in RIPE's mail archives.

A little background:
The RIPE NCC has begun using DNSSEC "in production" and has a
number of signed zones. They have been signing the reverse map
zones they have but the parent zones "in-addr.arpa" for IPv4 and
"ip6.arpa" for IPv6 are not signed. Anyone relying on RIPE'S
DNSSEC activities have to configure many trusted keys. In
addition, the Swedish ccTLD is also signing their zones, the
burden of not having a signed root is being felt more in the
RIPE region than anywhere else currently.

Subject: [dns-wg] RIPE Community Requests that ICANN Signs DNS Root
Date: Thu, 14 Jun 2007 10:30:29 +0200

Dear Colleagues,

During the RIPE 54 Meeting in Tallinn, Estonia on 7 -11 October, the
RIPE DNS Working Group agreed that a formal request should be made to
the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) for
it to sign the DNS root as soon as possible.

The working group formulated a statement and asked the RIPE community
for endorsement during the closing plenary.

The RIPE community unanimously supported this statement and, as a result,
a formal letter of request was sent to ICANN. This letter, which includes
the statement, can be viewed at:

Axel Pawlik
