[sig-dns]Proposal for DNS Operations SIG at APNIC 15
Dear Colleagues,
There will be one 'proposal' paper presented at the forthcoming DNS
Operations SIG at APNIC 15 (held in conjunction with APRICOT).
A brief synopsis of the proposal is provided below for your information.
Please take some time to go through the agenda, and raise any issues or
questions on the sig-dns@apnic.net mailing list.
1. Sweeping Lames - George Michaelson, APNIC Sec.
All RIRs are aware of the impact of reverse DNS delegations on their
membership and the Internet at large. Recently, increased interest in
reverse DNS problems has highlighted the large rate of 'lame' (or
dysfunctional) reverse DNS. The APNIC secretariat is proposing a model
based on work from the ARIN region, which tracks lame DNS registrations,
and after suitable notice without repair, de-lists the DNS. This has
immediate benefits for the general Internet and especially 'root' DNS
services which are subject to excess traffic from these registrations.
The mechanism proposed leaves substantive control with the existing
resource manager, to re-list their reverse DNS when it is working.
Full details of the agenda and papers can be found at:

Every effort has been taken to have the presentation material available
on the meeting web site as soon as we receive them from the presenters.
For further clarification please contact the author/presenter.
Regards,
Save Vocea
APNIC Secretariat
