Dear colleagues, The DB SIG meeting was held on Wednesday 1 March 2006 during the APNIC 21 Open Policy Meeting. There was no open action. Four presentations were given and the discussion opened with what to do about status of a proposal for whois database query. The original proposer sent this to the list for discussion in Feb 2004 but was never presented in any OPM. Since it's pending what should we do with this - is there a need? An informational presentation from Randy Bush about an alternative view of the resource certification model, which is actually different to the view from the panel's of the PKI structure is quite interesting. Another presentation provides an overview of the effects of privacy laws in Japan to the whois registration. The last presentation outline recent changes to the RIPE whois database. For more details see http://www.apnic.net/meetings/21/programme/sigs/db.html There is one action item from this meeting. The chair to send to the mailing list and request final comments of the proposal for whois database query. If after one month there is no clear support we will close discussions and abandon the proposal. If there is further need, one can resend the proposal. My observations are as follows: - There have been no policy proposal in the previous two SIG meetings. So we encourage people to participate. And we hope we can still run this SIG. - The mailing list is quiet. Comments or questions are welcome also from those who were not able to attend the session. Kind regards, Xing Li DB SIG Chair.
