[sig-db] Changes to authentication of Whois maintainer objects

___________________________________________________________

Changes to authentication of Whois maintainer objects:
  - MAIL-FROM authentication no longer available
    after 17 December 2002
___________________________________________________________

APNIC is implementing a decision made at the 14th APNIC Open Policy
Meeting to deprecate MAIL-FROM authentication of maintainer objects.

The deprecation of MAIL-FROM will strengthen security measures for
maintainers and the objects they protect. For information on the
proposal and the discussion, see:

    http://www.apnic.net/meetings/14/sigs/db/minutes.html

The implementation has commenced and MAIL-FROM authentication of
maintainer objects will not be possible after 17 December 2002.

APNIC is contacting all users of MAIL-FROM authentication to explain the
procedure for changing authentication methods, details of which are
available at:

    http://www.apnic.net/db/ref/attributes/mntner/auth-mntner.html

If you are using MAIL-FROM authentication you can change to CRYPT-PW at:

    http://www.apnic.net/apnic-bin/maintainer.pl
