IMF-sponsored project on e-tax returns in jeopardy The News, By Ikram Hoti 7/15/2003 http://www.jang-group.com/thenews/jul2003-daily/15-07- 2003/main/main13.htm ISLAMABAD: A major IMF-sponsored project of filing tax returns through emails is in jeopardy as the Pakistani authorities deem it unfit for the country's business companies. Authorities coordinating with IMF experts on this project are reported to have explained that the corporate sector in Pakistan is still far away from the position of readiness to apply the electronic filing of tax returns. The project was okayed by the government as part of the IMF package for tax reforms, but was never put in place for considerations that cannot be satisfied between Pakistan and the IMF. IMF experts have been persistent in their argument for the need to make it operational, while the Pakistani tax authorities have been requesting to first take a look at the stage of record-keeping the country's corporate entities have treasured. During these over-stretched polemics, the requirements for filing of additional documents has been on the rise. These documents are required to prove the assessment as genuine and disprove concealment of facts on income. _______________________________________________ Comp-list mailing list Comp-list@isb.sdnpk.org http://lists.isb.sdnpk.org/mailman/listinfo/comp-list
