Baramati Initiatives Conference has become known as
"Davos" of empowering the rural poor with ICTs. Baramati is now hosting
its Third Annual event from 30 May to 2 June at Baramati, Distt. Pune,
Maharashtra.
Started by M Kusakabe,
then VP of Global Resource Mobilisation of The World Bank, Sharad Pawar, former
Chief Minister, Maharashtra and Satish Jha of James Martin & Co, the
conference attracts leaders of ICT applications based projects that are working
hard to develop sustainable models of using ICTs in rural
India. This year again it is
being organised around the original dates- during the season when Baramati/ Pune
District region is very pleasant as well and some 200 leaders who come from all
over - from government, NGOs, corporate, academia, industry- to participate find
it a most productive time spent away from their usual operational
challenges. The corporate sector has
been very responsive too. And every year the number of corporates
supporting the project as well as those participating at Baramati has grown.
This year we also expect a larger international
participation. Earlier, major organisations like Unilever,
Hewlet-Packard, Intel, Hindustan Levers Limited, Datamation, James Martin,
Ministry of IT; Govt. of India, The World Bank, ICICI, Schoolnet India, ITC, EID
Parry, among several others have contributed to its success. This year we hope
to showcase many more success stories and also expect many more international
participants.. We are sure that this conference will be of benefit to all those
who need to reach out to rural markets and we look forward to your
support. The details of the last
two conference can be viewed at www.baramatiinitiatives.com. The
details of Baramati 2003 are available on www.baramati2003.com.
