ISLAMABAD (APP)-Chairman Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA)
Major General (Rtd), Shehzada Alam Malik has said that PTA is fully
prepared to execute the deregulation policy in the Telecommunication
Sector.

Talking to newsmen here on Tuesday, the PTA Chairman said the 
Authority has prepared for deregulation by studying various models 
and policies formulating in the developing countries. He stressed the 
need for capacity building measures effectively to cope with the 
universal challenges of deregulation of the Sector. He said PTA is 
trying to promote a level playing field for the telecom operators and 
investors, adding, the Authority is also trying to create the 
interest of the consumers as well. Alam said Telecommunication is one 
of the most important sectors which are facing several challenges in 
the country. He said that there is a bright chance for improvement 
and expansion of this sector, adding, this field could develop the 
economic progress of the country more rapidly. The Chairman said by 
adopting deregulation policy the PTA has focusedon the protection of 
stakeholders’ rights. He said the deregulation policy has also 
provided full assurance to the customers, adding, it provides more 
benefits in the form of affordable services. Shehzada Alam informed 
that recently the PTA has arranged an open forum on Voice Over 
Internet Telephony (VOIP) in order to get opinions and feedback from 
various stake holders. The Chairman informed that Authority has 
reduced the Type Approval (TA) on telecommunication equipments from 
30% to 50% and simplified the procedure for TA. He assured that PTA 
will continue its all efforts for the promotion of Telecommunication 
Sector which will help bring the benefits of competitive market to 
the people of country.
