NEWS: Indians can log on for Haj queries

Indians can log on for Haj queries

>From Indo-Asian News Service

New Delhi, Nov 15 (IANS) Indian Muslims embarking on the Haj
pilgrimage early next year can now get answers to all their queries
at the click of a mouse.

The Consulate General of India in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, has posted a
database on the Haj on its Internet site www.cgijeddah.com.

Anyone who has applied to the Central Haj Committee (CHC) for the
January-February pilgrimage can just type his or her passport or
registration number, or simply the name to access all details of the
pilgrimage.

The pilgrims can also leave questions that would be answered by Haj
officials.

The Web site gives information about the dates of departure and
return of pilgrims and timings of the flights from various parts of
India.

The site says accommodation details would be available only after the
pilgrims arrive in Jeddah. Madina contact numbers will also be given
when pilgrims reach there.

The database has been posted on the Web well in advance to ensure
that intending pilgrims have the necessary information and can make
adequate preparations for a smooth Haj.

A total of 253 flights are expected to take about 70,000 Indian
Muslims for the pilgrimage through the CHC from January 4 to February
5. Another 50,000 Indians are likely to perform the Haj this year
through private operators.

With 140 million Muslims, India is home to the world's second large
Muslim population after Indonesia.

A CHC official in New Delhi told IANS: "Haj is a complicated process
for many pilgrims. This site will be of great help to a large number
of people.

"We are also giving training to the pilgrims for the tour. We too are
in the process of developing a Web site. It was expected to be ready
by now but for some reason it could not be done. We will have it
ready soon."
