Announcement

e-Awareness Seminar Series for Asian Parliamentarians (e-ASSAP)

Call for Nominations

The Global Knowledge Partnership, the Swiss Agency for Development
and Cooperation (SDC) and the Asia-Pacific Development Information
Programme (APDIP) are jointly organizing the e-Awareness Seminar
Series for Asian Parliamentarians (e-ASSAP) tentatively scheduled for
March 2003. A total of three seminars will be held in three
different locations in the Asian region:

A) Seminar I - Delhi, India
Target participants : Parliamentarians from India.

B) Seminar II - Colombo, Sri Lanka
Target participants : Parliamentarians from South Asia countries
(Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka)
and Afghanistan.

C) Seminar III - Hanoi, Vietnam
Target participants : Parliamentarians from ASEAN member countries
(Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar,
Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam); China and South Korea.

Main Objectives

- Sensitize high-level Asian parliamentarians on the use of
ICT for the development and transformations of their constituencies
and nation.

- Highlight critical issue policies that affect the
formulation and implementation of ICT policies and strategies.

- Share lessons learned and best practices from across Asia,
Europe and North America that can be adapted and applied to
situations in participating countries.

- Provide Asian nations with sub-regional and regional
contexts for inter-country co-operation on ICT for development
issues.

- Ensure gender issues are highlighted via the seminar topic
and via representation by female MP™s.

The Global Knowledge Partnership Secretariat seeks assistance from
GKP members to nominate appropriate parliamentarians from the listed
countries to attend e-ASSAP, especially those with a demonstrated
interest in ICT4D but who do not carry an ICT-related ministerial
portfolio.

Furthermore, because parliamentarians are a transient group, each
country delegation should consist of at least one senior
parliamentary staff member so that he/she can provide continuity. In
the case of countries that do not have legislatures, senior
government officials may be proposed.

To submit your list of nominations, please email the GKP Secretariat
at gkps@gkpsecretariat.org.my

Deadline for nominations: 29 November 2002.
