ISLAMABAD—Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) has launched an
Automation of Domestic Manufacturing Industry (Bridge 2002) project
aimed at integrating the available local IT resources.
This would help provide quality industry solutions and utilise their
expertise to automate the industry, PSEB sources said here Friday.
The project holds two-fold impact. Firstly, it would help the
industry especially Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to automate
their business processes and enhancing not only their efficiency and
effectiveness but also their exports, they said.
They said the project has been aimed to streamline the economy,
decrease in operational pilferage, enhancement in domestic output and
high level of productivity.
The sources said it would also help improve domestic software houses
and companies, that can provide world-class industry solutions and
highlight such potential software and hardware solution development
resources that can be later exploited for software export.
This will also help establish rapport between software houses and
industry and will refine indigenous expertise in the IT sector.
The sources said PSEB will offer financial subsidy to software houses
and IT companies, that successfully execute and implement industrial
automation solutions.
The SME Bank will provide credit facilities to SMEs interested in
implementing the Bridge 2002 program based on technical assistance
provided by PSEB.
They said PSEB has also been promoting a new image through its
revamped website, high quality brochures and multimedia CD-ROM to
market local products in the international markets.
The website contains updated information on initiatives under taken
by PSEB, information regarding how to setup a business in Pakistan
and incentives for IT firms.
The site also provides a large list of useful links to various
government websites and other resources.
The website promotes local IT industry and provides a searchable list
of expertise and profiles of member companies.
Plans are to expand the functionality of the website and to make it a
complete portal offering projects archive, products listing and a
resume bank.—APP
