ISLAMABAD – After successful establishment of five telemedicine
centres and positive response from the general public, TelMedPak and
Paknet have decided to enhance their cooperation and expand operation
of telemedicine in other parts of the country.

A Press statement issued here on Thursday said that both the
organisations have pledged to provide best possible healthcare
facilities to the people of rural areas.

TelMedPak is the pioneer in introducing telemedicine in Pakistan.
Paknet is the largest public sector Internet Service Provider with
operation in 400 cities and towns.

Both the organisations are collaborating to facilitate the people of
Fateh Jhang, Gujar Khan, Taxila, Pinddadan Khan and Jhand.

They are planning to extend their services in the Northern Areas due
to extreme geographical location which hinders the patients to timely
access quality healthcare services.

Telmedpak is providing medical and technical service and Paknet is
donating computers, scanners, Internet cameras and Internet
connections, in the joint venture.

Shams-ul-Arifeen, project coordinator of TelMedPak said that
Telmedpak took a tremendous start and managed to demonstrate the use
of telemedicine, practically, from the extreme geographical location
of Northern Areas.

Managing Director of Paknet, Moeen Sadiq, termed his cooperation with
TelMedPak as extremely beneficial and fruitful for the general public
and the organisation.

He said that Paknet has gained tremendous amount of popularity in the
rural areas besides winning public appreciation for contributing in
human development project.

Telemedicine is the transfer of medical data like high-resolution
images, sounds, live video and patient records electronically from
one geographical location to another.

TelMedPak has received and answered over 200 teleconsultations in the
last few months.

This remarkable figure will increase with the establishment of five
more telemedicine centres.
