Ashok Jhunjhunwala, the father of CorDect technology has been awarded 
Padma Shri

Dr. Jhunjhunwala is a professor at IIT Chennai and was instrumental 
in establishing the TENET group at IIT, with fellow faculty members, 
with a vision to make India a design house in the area of telecom and 
computer networks. Dr. Jhunjhunwala has championed the cause that a 
lower telecom infrastructure cost will make telecom affordable to 
more Indians. His goal has been to develop technologies which will 
provide 200 million telecom and Internet connections in Indian 
cities, small towns and rural areas

instrumental in attracting investments from MNC firms for research 
and development work in IIT Madras in the telecom field. Dr. 
Jhunjhunwala has done pioneering work in developing the Wireless 
Local Loop product, CorDECT, for India in tune with India's needs and 
conditions.
