Rs 40m allocated for IT institute in Nawabshah

ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Science and Technology has approved a Rs 40
million project to provide quality education of information technology to
the students from interior Sindh. The project, sponsored by IT and Telecom
Division of the ministry, will establish an institute of information
technology at Quaid-e-Awam University of Engineering and Technology,
Nawabshah and will be completed in 30 months.

The overall objective of the project will be to expand, modernise and
improve the existing facilities of the university to undertake undergraduate
and post-graduate courses in the field of IT, including existing courses of
BE (computer sciences) and bachelor of computer sciences (BCS). A course, BE
(IT), will also be introduced.

The plan to establish the institute of information technology in Nawabshah
is part of government's plan to spread quality IT education throughout the
country. An amount of Rs 27 million will be spent on provision of equipment,
Rs 1.50 million on purchase of books, journals, CD ROMs etc, and Rs 8
million for hiring extra faculties.

Twenty special seats will be reserved for girls. The institute will provide
employment to about 50 people. Strengthening of computer science departments
in universities in Khairpur, Multan, Nawabshah, Peshawar and establishment
of IT centres in Gilgit, Skardu, Peshawar, Jamshoro, Khuzdar etc, are also
part of the government plans to spread IT education in far-flung areas of
the country.
