CD-ROM on Kerala Assembly ready, Web site under construction

by Sanu George, India Abroad News Service

Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 17 - The Kerala Assembly, in a unique record of
sorts will highlight the details of all the ten Assemblies of Kerala in a
CD-ROM.

Come March 20th, the CD ROM will be available. Added to this, arrangements
are being put in place for the development of a full-fledged Web site for
the Kerala Assembly.

Announcing this Saturday, Assembly Speaker M. Vijaykumar said that the
CD-ROM would contain the names of all the Kerala legislators, right from the
first Assembly. "We have found out that no Assembly has this and apart from
photographs, there will be details of all the important matters that were
discussed in all the ten assemblies," said Vijaykumar.

The CD-ROM would be a fully interactive CD. It would be released by former
Assembly speaker D. Damodaran Potti in the presence of the present head of
the erstwhile Travancore royal family, Uthradom Thirunal Maharajah.

"This is only the first one in the series and very soon we are bringing out
two more CD's which will have the entire business of the outgoing tenth
Kerala Assembly which finished its sitting on March 8," Vijaykumar said.

He also added that the work for developing a full-fledged website for the
Kerala Assembly is fast progressing. Once complete this will be the only
website for an Assembly in the country. "This is being worked out on the
lines of the site similar to the Indian Parliament," said Vijaykumar.

Reports indicate that once complete the website will be linked to the member
of legislative Assembly (MLA) hostel situated near the Assembly complex and
any one could browse the site for any details. "The work is not an easy
process, because it is a laborious one and at this point of time, we are
unable to set any date for the formal launch because of the massive data
which has to be fed into the site, right from the proceedings of the first
Kerala Assembly," said Vijaykumar.

Kerala Assembly has records that are unique in the history of the
legislative assemblies in the country. This is the only Assembly that did
business in two separate buildings and this is also the only Assembly where
the President of India addressed the Assembly. President K.R. Narayanan in
1998 inaugurated the new Assembly complex.
