[Nro-comments] Conclusion of the Comment Period
In the initial call for comments the RIRs requested comments on a set of
documents relating to the establishment of a Number Resource Organization
and a proposed Address Supporting Organization that was to be submitted to
ICANN. The comment period ended on the 22nd October.
A number of comments were posted during this period, and the overall
characterization of the comments was that there was a general level of
support from the community for these proposed actions, together with a
number of queries on aspects of the documents, and a number of suggestions
relating to aspects of the NRO's proposed roles and responsibilities,
particularly relating to the openness of the operation of the NRO
Executive Council. A revised version of the NRO document has been posted
to this list that reflects these suggestions.
The Boards of the RIRs (APNIC, ARIN, RIPE NCC, LACNIC) have carefully
considered these comments and the Boards have instructed the CEOs of the
RIRs to sign the NRO MoU on the 24th October. The Boards would like to
stress, however, that they will continue working together with the
community to refine the NRO's functioning.
The Boards of the RIRs would like to thank the contributors to this
comment list for their careful review of the documents and their
thoughtful comments.
As this phase of activity has concluded, this mail list will now be
archived and closed to further posting.
