APNIC Test Whois Database now available
_______________________________________

APNIC now operates a test database where users may learn how to use the
APNIC Whois Database software.

The APNIC Test Whois Database uses the same RIPE v3 software as the
APNIC Whois Database and is available for public use.

APNIC encourages users to create and update sample routing objects in
the test database in preparation for the new APNIC Routing Registry
service to be launched on 17 December 2002.

The test database will also serve as a test bed for enhancements to the
APNIC Whois Database in future.


How to use the APNIC Test Whois Database
----------------------------------------

The test whois server is available at:

    testwhois.apnic.net

For information on how to use the test whois server, see:

    http://www.apnic.net/db/test-db.html

Send requests to create, update or delete test objects to:

    <test-dbm@apnic.net>

All objects must have the following source attribute:

    source: TESTAPNIC


Important
---------
The APNIC Test Whois Database is for training and learning only. It
contains sample data only and is NOT an authoritative source of Whois
data. Changes made to the test database will NOT be copied to the APNIC
Whois Database. Please ensure that you continue to make your regular
updates to the APNIC Whois Database.

In order to maintain the test database APNIC also reserves the right to
remove data, but announcements will be made prior to doing this.
