[APPLe list] domain name news - 8 June

Hi all,

As the ICANN Sydney meeting is less than 2 weeks away, for those who are coming, you can check out http://www.bom.gov.au/cgi-bin/wrap_fwo.pl?IDN10064.txt for a 7 day forecast to help prepare.

Also, anyone who considers themselves pretty good in the water, there is a 1.2km ocean swim that I’m doing on Sunday June 21. It’s like a fun run, but obviously in the water, so it doesn’t matter how fast or slow you are. See http://www.oceanswims.com/nsw89/nswcalendar89.html#june09 for more information. The ocean temperature is currently 19 degrees, but it could be around 18 by the time the swim comes.

If anyone wants some information on Sydney – such as places to eat, swim, walk, sleep, drink, transport etc – let me know and I’ll do my best to help. And come join me for breakfast one morning in a cafe overlooking the big blue Pacific in the sunshine (weather permitting). Prior swimming in the ocean baths (see http://wylies.com.au/) is optional. The beach, Coogee Beach, is about 6km east of the city centre.

Cheers
David

It wasn’t pretty. For better than two hours today, members of the House Subcommittee on Communications, Technology, and the Internet took turns ripping into ICANN and its President/CEO Paul Twomey. Shows.com Leads the Cast on This Week's DN Journal Top 20 Domain Sales Chart
Sales from the two live domain auctions at last month's T.R.A.F.F.I.C. Silicon Valley conference started closing in large numbers this week to dominate our latest weekly Top 20 sales chart. Shows.com brought down the house with a $102,000 sale made in RickLatona.com's live sale at T.R.A.F.F.I.C. Three of this week's top four sales come from the Latona auction and they accounted for six chart entries overall.

RickLatona.com's live domain auction
The final business event at the T.R.A.F.F.I.C. ccTLDs conference, RickLatona.com's live domain auction, is underway as I write this from the front row of the auction venue at the NH Grand Krasnapolsky Hotel in Amsterdam. We have already seen one blockbuster sale, DiamondRings.com at €162,000 ($230,179 at today's exchange rate). In a solid ccTLD sale, Houses.co.uk just went for €51,000 ($72,429). There is a very good crowd in the room that includes domain investors from all over the world.
