USA Today just published an article about the potential turf wars brewing over ICANN's plans to start rolling out an unlimited number of new global TLD extensions as soon as the end of this year. Dot.ca turns 10, an ideal time for public review by Michael Geist
The 10-year anniversary of an important milestone in the history of the Internet in Canada passed last month without any notice. On March 11, 1999, the government of Canada wrote to the fledgling Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA) to establish the terms under which the new not-for-profit organization would manage the dot-ca domain name space. The government articulated a vision of the dot-ca domain as a "key public resource" and called on CIRA to act in an open and transparent manner.

CNNIC Releases Statistical Report on State of Internet in China
CNNIC, the China Internet Network Information Center, released its 23rd statistical report on the internet development in China in January. The report found there were 13.572 million registered .CN domain names, the highest of any country code Top Level Domain (ccTLD) in the world. Today there are approximately 14.5 million .CN domain names.

International organization ENUM Federation established
Initiated by five European countries, ENUM Federation, an interest group of legal entities, was established in the Czech Republic on 30 March. A US court was wrong when it ruled that Google's selling of a trade marked term to a competing company to be used as a trigger for advertising was not 'use in commerce'. The appeals court has said that the use could infringe the trade mark.

Cyberangriffe schlagen auf US-Budget
