ICANN has encouraged new constituencies to get involved in the GNSO. Now it has got what it asked for. This month, Cheryl Preston filed a petition with ICANN to form a new “Cyber-safety Constituency.” It turns out that this constituency is nothing more than an extension of the CP80 Foundation. CP80 is devoted to systematic, global censorship of internet content in order to eradicate pornography.

Fi-domain names for five years
Finnish government seeks to extend the validity of fi-domain names according to the proposal on the amendment of the Domain Name Act submitted on 19 March. The time of restraint of the domain names is also proposed to be shortened.

.PR IDNs now available
The NIC.PR announces that Internet users can now register .pr domain names using Internationalized Domain Names (IDN). The introduction of these new domain names now enables Spanish, French, German, and Portuguese speakers to establish web sites using words commonly used in those languages such as muñeca.pr, teléfonos.pr, garçon.pr, schön.pr, or amanhã.pr.

Scottish Parliament backs dotSCO campaign

Telnic has announced that it had achieved a milestone in the delivery of a new internet service, with tens of thousands of .tel domains going "live", creating the world's first global directory. The proposal of a triple-X domain for Internet pornography is being negotiated. Pat Trueman, special counsel for the Alliance Defense Fund, notes ICM Registry has failed in the past, largely due to public pressure, but the idea is being reconsidered.

Worming Our Way Out of Trouble by Bill Thompson
The Conficker worm will be active again on April 1st, according to an analysis of its most recent variant, Conficker.C, by the net security firm CA. This malicious piece of software, also known as Downup, Downadup and Kido, spreads among computers running most variants of the Windows operating system and turns them into nodes on a multi-million member 'botnet' of zombie computers that can be controlled remotely by the worm's as yet unidentified authors.

DomainFight.net reports the following Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy Proceeding brought by American International Group, Inc. (AIG), on October 8, 2006. DomainTools.com reports the following typographical variations of “AIGInsurance”, most of which are cybersquatted WIPO typographical variations of the AIGInsurance.com domain. These results don’t include the typosquatting on American International Group’s primary website, AIG.com.

Cybersquatting is a crime against the laws and regulations of cyber law. It can be defined as registering, trafficking in, or using a domain name with bad-faith i.e. mala fide intent to make profit from the goodwill of a trademark belonging to someone else. Global Policy for the Allocation of the Remaining IPv4 Address Space Ratified by ICANN Board
On 6 March 2009, the ICANN Board ratified the Global Policy for the Allocation of the Remaining IPv4 Address Space. The policy requires ICANN to reserve one /8 for each RIR from the IANA free pool. This has been done. The remainder of the implementation will be done once the once the IANA free pool has been fully allocated to RIRs. There are currently 32 unallocated unicast IPv4 /8s. 27 are in the IANA free pool and five are reserved under the Global Policy for the Allocation of the Remaining IPv4 Address Space.

Consumer Pressure Drives ISOC Members IPv6 Deployment
In a survey of members on the transition to IPv6, the Internet Society (ISOC) found the main driver for moving to Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) was customer demand. In a study of the operational characteristics of IPv6 in its organisation members’ networks, ISOC found that while customer pressure motivated IPv6 deployment, specific business-case drivers did not yet exist.

No business case for IPv6, survey finds
Business incentives are completely lacking today for upgrading to IPv6, the next generation Internet protocol, according to a survey of network operators conducted by the Internet Society (ISOC). In a new report, ISOC says that ISPs, enterprises and network equipment vendors report that there are "no concrete business drivers for IPv6."

Netcraft March 2009 Web Server Survey
In the March 2009 survey, we received responses from 224,749,695 sites. This has brought the total up by more than 9 million sites, with QQ and Microsoft making the most significant contributions. Apache remains in the lead with a total of 104 million sites, while Microsoft-IIS's gain of 3.3 million sites (mostly consisting of new Windows Live blogs) brings its total up to 66 million.

Mysterieus internetvirus kan hele landen offline halen
Een mysterieus virus dat al maanden over het internet waart, is inmiddels zo wijdverbreid en geavanceerd dat het door de makers gebruikt kan worden om complete landen offline te halen. Het is zelfs mogelijk dat het internet ontregeld raakt. Dat stellen computerwetenschappers van het Amerikaanse SRI International.

日前，冠群金辰公司的全球反病毒监测网再次截获了一种新型蠕虫病毒——Win32/Conficker.C病毒。该病毒来头不小，它的前身就是曾让法国空军的“飓风”战斗机因感染而导致武器系统瘫痪，最终停飞的Conflicker蠕虫病毒，Win32/Conficker.C病毒是这一病毒的最新变体。
