us: ACLU v. Gonzales: An eight-year struggle over Internet censorship
The Child Online Protection Act (COPA) is once again being examined in
court as the legal controversy surrounding the Internet censorship law
continues. The present trial, ACLU v. Gonzales, is expected to last
four weeks and counts popular web sites like Salon.com and the Urban
Dictionary among the plaintiffs. Evidence will be presented by Internet
content distributors ranging from widely-read online news publications
to web-based purveyors of safe sex products. Why are so many legitimate
web site operators concerned about a law written to limit the
dissemination of Internet pornography?

us: Her online vigilance protects children from porn, predators
On her farm outside of Knightdale, Mary Conyers spends many evenings
taming foals with gentle pats and molasses treats. Her afternoons are
often occupied with putting up quarts of tomatoes fresh from her
husband's garden or making the tenderest bread-and-butter pickles you
have ever tasted. But in every free moment, often for many hours a day,
she quietly indulges her true obsession: pornography on the Web.
Fighting it, that is.

ca: Public no pushover on snooping law by Prof Michael Geist
The push for new Internet surveillance capabilities dates back to 1999,
when government officials began crafting proposals to institute new
surveillance technologies within Canadian communications networks along
with additional legal powers to allow surveillance and access
subscriber information. The initiative nearly became reality with the
Liberal government's introduction of the Modernization of Investigative
Techniques Act (MITA) last fall.

Internet And Child Pornography Link To Abuse Of Children Unclear
If someone downloads child pornography onto their computer, is that an
indication they're a pedophile, or might become one in the future? That
question is gaining the attention of forensic psychiatrists as never
before, thanks to recent legislation making possession of Internet
child pornography a federal crime constituting an unlawful transmission
of information across state lines.
