mobi: How to Start Your .mobi Online Presence
Immediately
DotMobi is the first domain extension that comes with
such strict Web site design requirements and the
general public is still struggling to understand what
exactly stands behind .mobi and what was the main
point of creating this extension. It is certain that
the mTLD Registry, as well as .mobi Accredited
Registrars, will have to spend an immense amount of
time on educating the general public before people
will have a clear understanding of how .mobi works.

GeoTLDs: Diversity is Key By Werner Staub
The 2004 new sTLD round brought about a new type of
TLD in the form of .asia and .cat. As we always
struggle for words to capture their nature, I call
them "geoTLDs". Culture, language and ethnicity are
also part of geography. Contrary to ccTLDs, geoTLDs do
not have a territorial meaning. They are a wonderful
addition to the Internet as they provide a way to
demonstrate one's commitment to a community that is
not defined by borders, yet linked to where the
individual chooses to be. ...Will they be? They will,
unless we do the wrong thing now.

us: Jury hears sheriff's Web site lawsuit
Jurors should begin hearing testimony today in a civil
lawsuit pitting Macomb County Sheriff Mark Hackel and
the county against a former reserve officer who used
to operate the sheriff's Web site. ... "The defendants
want the same thing they have always wanted -- the Web
site content and domain name returned to their
custody," he said. "And they tried to use the criminal
prosecution to essentially resolve a small civil
dispute. They used and, I would say, abused their
positions of power trying to resolve this (case)."

us/kz: Bush to hold talks on Ali G creator after
diplomatic row
US President George Bush is to host White House talks
on British comedian Sacha Baron Cohen. ... Anti-Borat
hard-liners have pulled the plug on borat.kz, Borat's
Kazakhstan-based Website after his frequent displays
of anti-Semitism and his portrayal of Kazakh culture.
... Nurlan Isin, President of the Association of
Kazakh IT Companies took the action after complaints.
He said: "We've done this so he can't badmouth
Kazakhstan under the .kz domain name. "He can go and
do whatever he wants at other domains."

Anxious Moments At ICANN
Anne-Rachel Inné, ICANN's liaison responsible for the
Africa region, says that ICANN is not yet sure what
direction the relationship between ICANN and the US
Department of Commerce will take following the signing
of the MoU because the department has not yet revealed
details of any future agreement. She says, however,
that it is likely that any new agreement will attempt
to show the world that the US government is serious
about internationalising ICANN. How this intention
might manifest itself is not yet clear.
