U.S. Principles on the Internet's Domain Name and
Addressing System
In remarks to the Wireless Communications Association
on 30 June, Assistant Secretary Michael Gallagher
announced U.S. principles on the Internet's Domain
Name and Addressing System. These principles were: The
United States Government intends to preserve the
security and stability of the Internet's DNS;
Governments have legitimate interest in the management
of their ccTLD; ICANN is the appropriate technical
manager of the Internet DNS; Dialogue related to
Internet governance should continue in relevant
multiple fora.

inspired the Monroe Doctrine, the United States
declares its intention to maintain indefinite

traffic.

Have you considered the possibility of "the
Internets"? Not to be alarmist, but that is one
outcome that critics are forecasting after the Bush
administration changed its stance on one issue of
Internet governance this week.
