.net: ICANN setzt Verisign auf Platz eins
Und ärgern, DENIC: Die Internet Corporation for
Assigned Names and Numbers, kurz ICANN, hat gestern
Top-Level-Domain (TLD) ".net" an. Der bisherige
Vertrag mit Verisign, das den Adressbereich aktuell
verwaltet, läuft in diesem Jahr aus (Computerwoche.de
berichtete).

DeNIC bei Bewerbung um .net-Registry abgeschlagen
Der momentane Betreiber für .net, der
Ex-Domainmonopolist VeriSign, liegt bei der
Neuausschreibung des Registry-Betriebs für die Top
Level Domain .net vorne. Im Ranking, das der
Dienstleister Telcordia im Auftrag der
Internet-Verwaltung ICANN aufgestellt hat, rangiert
VeriSign auf Platz eins. Auf dem zweiten Rang folgt
Sentan, die gemeinsame Bewerbung von .biz-Betreiber
Neustar und der japanischen Länderregistry. Die
.info-Registry Afilias rangiert trotz der billigsten
Preise auf Rang drei. Die .de-Registry DeNIC liegt
überraschend abgeschlagen auf Platz vier, gefolgt von
Core++. ICANN hatte angekündigt, so schnell wie
möglich mit dem Erstplatzierten Vertragsverhandlungen
aufzunehmen.

Spirit of .Pro, Where Art Thou?
On March 2, EnCirca launched its ProForwarding leasing
service for .pro domains. When we launched the
service, we were sure that the ProForwarding service
would appeal to a segment of the internet community
not being served well by other extensions:
self-employed professionals and other small
businesses. Based on the response we've received, it
appears we were right. It also caught the attention of
ICANN and others, who accused us of "violating the
spirit of .pro". Does .pro even have a spirit? And if
it does, who gets to decide what it is?

us: Net domain scams offer preregistration
Increasing numbers of Maine consumers are contacting
COMBAT saying they have been cheated by or are
intended victims of bogus Internet domain
registration, Web site creation offers, chain letters,
Internet moneymaking schemes, identity theft, and an
abundance of other schemes. Since COMBAT receives no
government funding and relies on community volunteers
helping their neighbors, the influx of
Internet-related complaints is stretching our
mailboxes. You can help greatly by protecting
yourself.

High Impact Sites: Inside Adam Dicker’s Domain Empire
At this time two years ago, the name Adam Dicker
didn’t ring a bell for most people in the domain
business. When you mention the 39-year-old Canadian
today, just about everyone knows who you are talking
about. Even in an industry that moves at the speed of
light, it is amazing how quickly hard working
newcomers can make their mark.

Approvato dall'ICANN il dominio .ue
In un meeting del 21 Marzo 2005 l'Internet Corporation
for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) ha approvato la
sigla .ue come nuovo country code Top-Level Domain
e solitamente corrispondono allo standard ISO 3166-1

level domain' (tld).

"Corporate Governance" für die Internet-Verwaltung
Die Internet- und DNS-Verwaltung ICANN will das
Verhältnis zwischen hauptamtlichem Büro und
ehrenamtlichen Direktoren klarer fassen. Gutes
Management und eine effektive Aufsicht über mögliche
Fehlentwicklungen, amerikanisch kurz gefasst
"Corporate Governance", gehören seit den Skandalen um
Enron und Worldcom zum guten Ton bei US-Unternehmen.
Parallel zur Veröffentlichung der Rangliste der
.net-Bewerber hat die ICANN daher einen Entwurf zu
Richtlinien für die Corporate Governance bei der
Internet-Verwaltung vorgestellt.
